St. Albert's Ossie McIntyre taken 7th overall in WHL Bantam Draft

“I think he's going to be a real exciting player for our fans and we're really excited to be able to select Ossie,” said Spokane Chiefs general manager Matt Bardsley.

Ossie McIntyre, the St. Albert Sabres U15 AAA centreman who lead the U15 Alberta Elite Hockey League in points and goals this past season, was drafted 7th overall by the Spokane Chiefs in the Western Hockey League Bantam Draft on Thursday.

McIntyre not only lead the league in points, but did so by 38 points. He also lead the league in goals with 55, which was 25 more than the second top scorer.

The Chiefs general manager Matt Bardsley told the hosts of the WHL Bantam Draft show that he thinks McIntyre is an “electric” player.

“We fell in love with the player, the person, the way he is on the ice, [and] what we really like about him is you can just see the energy,” Bardsley said. “His skill set is very, very high.”

“I think he's going to be a real exciting player for our fans and we're really excited to be able to select Ossie.”

McIntyre's offensive prowess helped lead his team to a provincial championship this past March, as well as a bronze medal at the John Reid Memorial Tournament in January, which was the first in team history.

There are 15 rounds in the WHL Bantam Draft, the first of which got underway at 10:00 a.m. this morning.

The Gazette will have more to come.
